Some say everyday’s a school day, well with this nice idea from design studio Young, you can Learn Something Every Day. Submit your own facts to the site and see if they get selected. Also well worth checking out their other work.

Another BKMD addition and some nice updates since I last visited from London based design collective Bunch. I like the look of the limited edition of 300 entitled “TEN” after Milton Glaser’s essay “Ten Things I Have Learned”.
Its been a while since I have added anything to the BKMD series of posts and I have been meaning to post the work of Swiss agency Demian Conrad Design for a while now. I got an email through from Demian to tell me about there new project entitled Mercalibro, a second hand market that runs once a month in Bellinzona. Really nice typographic work and there is plenty of other nice work.

Published September 16, 2009 Design , Effektive , Submissions 3 CommentsFinally got round to coming up with a couple of ideas for the Create Democracy exhibition which is going to form part of the Design Event 09. The first of my submissions is called Abstain (shown above) and uses two iconic political campaign shapes overlaping to create a ‘grey area’ in which people can abstain from voting. The second is called ‘Definition’ and is based on the fact that after a Wikipedia search the term democracy has no universally excepted definition, which I enjoyed the irony of. The tape element is hint at the looseness of the term and the idea of holding it all together. If you think either design should be part of the exhibition then vote for them here. Well… c’mon people!
Field Guide for Graphic Designers
Published September 11, 2009 Books , Effektive , Submissions Leave a CommentI was asked to contribute to a book called The field Guide for Graphic Designers about a year ago just before my move to Sydney and I have just received my copy of the book which has just been published in the UK by Rockport. Its a great little book with lots of great contributions such as Toko, Frank Chimero, Troika, Xavier Encinas, Hinterland and Roanne Adams amongst others. The book is out now priced £19.99 and is a worthwhile read for any designer young or old. Thanks to Ana Labudovic and MaoMao publications for all their help.
Stereohype B.I.O Series 8
Published September 11, 2009 Badges , Design , Effektive , Signage Leave a CommentI was delighted to be invited by my friends at Stereohype to submit a set of badges for their By Invitation Only (B.I.O) Series 8. The set above will be produced by Stereohype and available to purchase via the Stereohype Boutique online store in the coming weeks. I created a set of signage inspired badges based on the idea that by applying these usually location driven messages to mobile canvases such as badges enables you to take them out of their typical setting and apply them to anything anywhere. Thanks again guys and hope they go down well.
I love this new identity for the City of Melbourne created by Landor in Sydney. Fantastic thought and great execution has made this an identity job which would be a joy to work with. Read and see more of the great work on this and a variety of other projects here
